Mission & Purpose

The USSPWD Club is a Southeastern Regional Club sanctioned by the Portuguese Water Dog Club of America (pwdca.org). It is made up of members interested in the breed, both as pet owners as well as performance and conformation competitors. The Club's primary mission is to promote fun activities and camaraderie among its PWD members.  The Club also educates its members, encouraging them to be responsible pet parents. Secondly, the Club encourages and promotes quality in purebred Portuguese Water Dogs by sponsoring activities and participating in national PWD events.  Our Directors and Officers are active volunteers, living throughout the tri-state area (Florida, Georgia and Alabama). They lead the Club and provide assistance to its members.

The USSPWD encourages members and breeders to maintain the breed standard, as approved by The American Kennel Club (akc.org), as the standard of excellence by which Portuguese Water Dogs are judged. The Club does all it can to advance the interests of the breed by encouraging sportsmanlike competition at dog shows, agility, obedience and water trials, tracking tests and hunting trials.
